Katerina Sheffield DC RPh received her Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Parker Chiropractic College in Dallas, Texas, and her Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Texas at Austin. As a chiropractor and a pharmacist, Dr. Sheffield has a unique understanding of both the western medical model of healthcare and the holistic approach of chiropractic.
In the nineties Dr. Sheffield was referred to a chiropractor by a massage therapist who noticed that she came at least once a week for neck pain and headaches. Dr. Sheffield was skeptical, but curious, so she tried it. After undergoing a treatment plan she had tremendous relief, not only of her neck pain and headaches, but her all-over body pain too. As an active woman in her thirties she wasn’t even aware of how much pain she was in until it was gone. It was a seminal moment because she had been skeptical of chiropractic care, but she couldn't argue with the results. As a pharmacist, she realized that had she sought help from the medical community she most likely would have been given drugs to mask the symptoms, but they wouldn’t have corrected the problem. It was only a few short years later that she decided to return to school to become a Doctor of Chiropractic.
Seeing the body as a whole, interconnected and highly functioning entity comprised of mind, body and spirit is one of the many reasons why Dr. Sheffield changed careers to help people through complementary, alternative chiropractic care. The western medical model is indeed helpful, even miraculous, when the human body breaks down. It is a miracle that a heart can be transplanted and that a patient can lead a meaningful life afterward. Drugs have their place, but they are vastly over-prescribed, overused and abused. Having been in both systems, Dr. Sheffield believes that the alternative, chiropractic wellness model is is the most valuable healthcare model available today. As they say, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
Dr. Sheffield is an upper-cervical specialist, and she combines upper-cervical work with gentle full spine adjusting, brain balancing, neuromuscular re-education, functional medicine, soft tissue and energy work to bring health and wellness to the whole body. She respects the design, structure and function of the body, and the fact that it is designed to heal itself. Most importantly, she emphasizes a personalized and caring approach, and it’s her desire to understand your needs and goals so she can help you lead the active life you love.
Dr. Sheffield is founder and owner of Westlake Chiropractic PLLC.
